A Nigerian woman was turned away from a
Trinidad & Tobago airport last Friday, in accordance with the
country’s new policies instituted to prevent Ebola from spreading
into
its territory.
Jamaica Observer reports
that after landing at Piarco International Airport, health officials
interviewed the woman immediately after she disembarked from a Copa
Airlines flight, which had departed from Panama and made a stop in
Venezuela.
Because she was a Nigerian national
whose travel itinerary originated in Nigeria, she was categorized as
among those who would not be allowed to enter the country.
Reports state that the woman is the first individual to be banned from Trinidad & Tobago under the new policies.
Other countries affected by the ban are Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia.
